The HTC Vive Pro 2 Is Powerful

Looking To Upgrade From The Valve Index?

The Vive Pro 2 has a 5k resolution, comfortable over-ear speakers that sit well, and runs a bit warm.

So why get it?

GamesWithGreg has been vigorously testing this headset with the RTX 3070 8GB, mainly testing MSFS 2020 in VR!

Check Out The Performance HERE!

RTX 3070 8GB Performance

Comfort

The foam face gasket is a sponge and prone to sweat build up during warm days, and acne breakouts if you do not keep tip-top hygiene. Swapping to the VR Cover 16mm has greatly improved comfort and cooling during extended use.

Paired With The Steam Knuckle Controllers its a blast!

Heat is a real issue, as it keeps very warm in the front of the headset. We have not paired the wireless adapter with this headset yet, but we are worried that the heat build up would be too much, and give a poor experience; so it stays on our Vive Cosmos as a wireless option.

Padding is sufficient and adjustability is well rounded with its rear fastener to tighten down, and the fabric head strap to balance the headset is very comfortable and does not take away from the experience. The weight of the Vive Pro 2 is comfortable and we do not find it overbearing.

IPD adjustment is the same as the Vive Cosmos, and is alway a nice addition for those that have odd pupil alignment (raises hand).

Overall, GamesWithGreg can wear this headset for at least an hour before having to take it off from heat; in the cooler months of the year, we are able to comfortably wear this headset for long flights in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

Clarity, Sweet Spot, And Power

The Vive Pro 2 has some really nice lenses, and it really shines in games like Half-Life : Alyx. High Fidelity Textures Look absolutely stunning. Picking up a Combine hex shaped lens is burned into my mind because it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw in VR.

Take A Look At This Headset Display!

We cannot say the same for the focus point, or the “sweet spot” as some call it.

The Vive Pro 2 has a very small sweet spot, and if this is not accounted for first, you will find your text to be very blurry and fuzzy.

Tighten down your headset with the sweet spot in mind. Once your IPD and sweet spot are set and in focus, your games really come alive!

Now comes the caveat; Power.

We have tested the Vive Pro 2 with the RTX 3070 8GB and have found some very stunning results.

MSFS 2020 will run at medium settings with DLSS, and DX12 at 30 FPS, however you will need to go into Vive Console and drop your settings to “Performance” To Get 30FPS on medium for MSFS.

Going up to “Balanced” does boost clarity in the headset, but you are not able to enable eye candy.

You can expect to see THIS kind of performance on medium settings, and honestly, its enough to get the VR flight sim experience!

We were able to crank the headset to its highest resolution before going to the “extreme” setting.

Gregs Gavel

The Vive Pro 2 has tremendous potential to be a leading high end VR headset, however not having the Steam Lighthouse tracking right off the bat is a huge setback, and not easy to break into.

If you do have existing lighthouses, and looking to upgrade from your lower resolution Valve Index, you might want try you friends Vive Pro 2 for a while before springing for one of these.
